Adventure Week!

On the second to last week of term 4 we had an adventure week at school. Each day there was one or more activities to participate in. You could choose which activaty/s to do each day. Some of the activities are free but others you have to pay for.

On Monday I did Ice skating at Alpine Ice. It was really fun to whiss around on the ice and we spent more time lying on the ice than skating!

Tuesday my friends and I went on s photography course with my teacher Sharon and teacher aid Ali. First we got given a sheet of paper that had the taks on it and then we set of in two vans to find all our photos. There were a lot of different photos and my favorite one was a photo of one of our group eating ice cream!

On wednesday we wear at school all day and in the morning I helped file books for the juniors and then played werewolves and then made a jigsaw puzzle out of some photos I had on my computer.

Thursday the whole class went to jelly park and on friday was ratification day so we carved stone and played on the crazy bikes.

My Amazing Writing!

Last week I wrote a story about a photo that I saw on pobble 365. It was about a girl who went to live with her step-dad and found some wild horses, but this week I wrote another story about a child walking down a tunnel into a forest but she can't escape no matter how hard she tries. This is the story from this week:

The Tunnel

I make my way down the dark, forest tunnel, stumbling blindly towards the faint glow of light. The sides of the tunnel were soft against my hands and coated with green moss that got thicker as the light grew nearer. I was so close to the light I could almost feel the sun on my face. Breaking into a jog I ran out and into the light and my suranding where not what I had thought they would be like. There where bright, tall trees everywhere with leaves growing up the sides and there were three circle hoopes that were just taller than me. “I’m Finally Free!” I yelled and then listened closely, hoping to hear a reply. “Fine then, i'll just come and find you” I snap before sighing and walking out the side of the hopes. Well I tried to but as I put my foot over the path line I got thrown backwards into the other side where I also got thrown back into the other wall which threw me to the other wall. This keeps going for a few minutes before I managed to stop myself and lay on the ground panting. This is going to be a very long day I think to myself before throwing myself at the invisible wall again.

My Story!

This is my story about a girl who loves horses and science and what happens if you put them together!

“Right, listen up”, called Mr Write as the class sat down.”Today we are going to be looking at controlling animals with chips”. We all gathered around the table in the center of the room where there was a car battery and a box with heaps of switches, buttons and flashing lights. “What you are looking at is a complex science box that contains the power to take over an animals mind.” Mr Write boomed, “No one will touch this box without my permission.” “What animals will it be able to control?” I asked him staring in wonder at the box. “It will take over the mind of any animal that has a microchip in them and because you are asking Lisa, you will be pleased to know that it can control horses.” I looked at the huge box sitting in front of me. “You will all right a paper on what use this will be and give it to me at the end of class. Almost half an hour later the bell rang and the class grabbed their bags and took off out the door. I took my time packing up and pretended to be heading out. I waited until Mr Write left the classroom to have lunch then ran into the classroom. The box was still sitting there looking as harmless as a puppy butcontaing the power of ten thousand horses. Pugging the tongs into the battery I flicked a few switches and all the lights lit up and started flashing. Peering over at the other side of the box there was a little screen and A few photos of different animals came up and I picked a beautiful looking horse with a broad chest and big, brown eyes. The effect was sudden for straight away eletsaty started buzzing around. ‘What had I done?’

Over the other side of the world Amy Saintago was grooming her big, bay horse Chester, when he started stomping his hooves and throwing his head up and down. “Woah boy” She soothed moving to his head “It’s okay”. Suddenly without warning and with one last trough of his head her reared up, striking his hooves to the sky. Amy jumped back in fright as he stood there on his two front legs then spun around, wrenching the lead rope off where it was tied, and galloped off down the road.

Back in the science, room 7, Ground floor…

Lisa was still sitting there in the room, staring at the box as its light flashed random colours. Bang!, The classroom door was flung open as a group of students bolted into the room and locked it behind them. Screams could be heard from the other side of the door and out of interest and being a bit shaken after what I could here, I quickly stepped over to the closest window and peed outside. What I saw nearly made me double over for there were hundreds of horses and ponies, all different sizes, shapes and colours. All the fear drained out of me, I tugged open the window and jumped out and luckily landed on a picnic table not in the rose bush. Suddenly it all came back to me, I did this and this was all my fault. But on the bright side i can control horses!

My Amazing Story!

The wind rustled the leaves as the sunlight filtered through them casting light. Liam’s eyes flew open as the bright light fell on his face. Squinting, he pushed himself up from the hard, forest floor and glanced around at his surroundings. He was in a small clearing with trees all around him with nothing except a few bunches of flowers scattered and a small, blue, drawstring bag. Standing up completely he staggered over to the closest tree and used it to support himself his head aching. Noticing the bag he wobbled over and fell on his knees next to it. Seizing the bag in his bony hands he pulled it open and rummaged around inside it. Eventually he pulled out a small box that stored his syringe and vial that contained his medicine. Ripping it open he tipped out its contents with was: a tissue, a leaf and a few dead slugs. “NO” the cry ripped through his throat, tearing his insides apart. Pain overwhelming him he slumped sideways on the ground his head spinning. "No no, I can’t have run out" He thought "I need mor-" “Screaming he rolled sideways the pain in his head blinding him. The small box fell out of his limp hand as his whole body collapsed.

“There there, Look he’s there!” Shouted Gorge as the helicopter circled over the forest. “You fly” grumbled Bob as he thrust the headset at Gorge and peered out the misty window. Sure enough there in the middle of a clearing was small figure lying on it’s side not moving. “Ring the boys mum” he ordered Gorge “We’ve got him”. Far away on the other side of the forest and far away Lusy was busy making lunch when her cell phone rang making her jump. Drying her hands she picked it up and saw the fimila number of Bob who was out looking for her son. “Well” she demanded when she picked it up, “any news?”

The Cave

This is the start of the story I'm writing in my class. Enjoy!

I turned my head slightly to the right, enlightening a patch of sparking rock with my head torch. Beams of daylight shone down through the waves, lighting up the dark water. Kicking gently I swam slowly around the rock wall feeling each peace with my bare fingers. I glanced up when I heard another sound of movement in the depths of the dark water. Floating for a few moments I paired cautiously into the darkness. Telling myself I imagined it I swam deeper until I was deep within the rocks, in the pitch black with only my torch to guide me. Again I heard something but it was louder and possibly even… closer? Fear bubbled up inside me as I thrashed around trying to find the source of the noise but it was too dark to make out anything. I shut my eyes for a moment before opening them with a clear head. ‘Thrashing around would only attract whatever was in the water,’ I told myself. ‘You must stay still.’ With those thoughts on my mind, I shrunk back into the rocks and let the darkness swallow me. Staying as quiet as possible, I crept slowly along the rock wall, pressing my back flat against the rock and relying only on my fingers to guide me. Suddenly there was a sharp pang of pain in my finger as they ran along a sharp bit of rock. I brought the finger up to my face and took a double take when I saw what my finger had become. My usually pale finger was consumed with black ink-ish stuff that was spreading insistently down my finger. Everything begins to blur and the world started spinning around me as I stared at my hand, now nearly half covered in the black poison. I felt myself falling backwards then everything went black.

Area!

We have been doing lots of work about Area and here is my learning!

Strengths Explorer!

In class every Tuesday and Thursday we do strength explores. Strength explores is where you do a quiz to find out your top three strengths are (mine are:Competing Organizer and Relater). Lately we have been exploring deeper and finding out more about how we use each strength each day and how using our strengths may help us in the future. Today I used my competing strength when I was biking to school with my friend and we raced up the path way of our school. I hope to keep learning about my strengths!

Idle Strengths

Pippa Funnell- Competing, Achever, Dependable, Organiser.

I think she uses these skills because she has to care for all of her horses and she competes in HUGE competitions like the Olympics.

Mark Todd-Competing, Achever, Dependable, Organiser.

I think he uses these skills as well because he trains heaps of horses so he has to be really organised and he to compete in big competitions.

Charlotte Dujardin- Competing, Achever, Dependable, Organiser.

I think that Charlotte uses these skills because she’s a world famous dressage rider so she trained hundreds of horses that become five star horses.

Polynesian navigate

Polynesian navigate
Polynesian wayfinders navigate the Pacific Ocean

Clara

Week ¾ Term 2

Literacy Tangaroa

INTRODUCTION

This is about Polynesian navigates. Hope You Enjoy!!! :)
To Navigate they used:

On the canoes they used a group of things that were available at different times to keep track of where they where or where they where going.

They mainly used :

The sun

The moon

The stars

The ocean currents

The clouds

During the voigering period successful gurnes depended on:

Well built canoes. This is a crucial thing that you have to have to even try

The skill of navergaters. This is also really important because they make sure where they’re going is safe and what its like Ect

Weather. This is the biggest one. Successful journeys rely mainly on weather because bad weather makes bad trip. Most canoes can handle just below average weather but they all have their weak points.
Vogeries relied on ...

Wa’a Kaulua - Double-Hulled canoes, powered by sales and steadied by a single, large oor, the Double-Hulled canoes are really win, win. Vogeries need to have Double-Hulled canoes because they are more stable and glide through the water swiftly.

Experienced Navigates - Experienced Navigates is one of the most important things to have. Not only do the navigators see where they are going they also can see the swells forming and then could tell if a storm or something else was coming. Canoe Building:

Canoe Building:

Canoe building involved the hole community from navergaters to hula dancers. It was a big event and lots of people helped in one way or another.

How to identify something:
How they do it:

The sun

The suns position indicated east and west and created low light on the ocean that made it possible to see swells.

Canoes
By day navigators could identify direction by the rocking of the canoe caused by the swells.

Island Interactions:

Some of the top island interactions are:

Flight bird patterns are an easy indication of where islands are.
Floating debris also can indicate where an island is .
Types of fish in the area indicate where the island is for each area has a few different types of fish.

The End!!!
Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something new.

Text-to-Self!

In literacy this week we have been completing a work sheet full of tacks and one of them was a text to self tack and this is my work. Enjoy!

(Text-to-self) I read Olive’s research (slide show) and my personal connection was that we both did ours about sea turtles so we had similar or the same information. It was also interesting seeing what I had and she didn’t or vice versa.

Literacy Feedback!!!

For literacy this term we did lots of stuff on sea turtles and pollution and this is my feedback outcome!

I got some good feedback and some not so good feedback for my title giving clear information so I changed it from Sea Turtles to Sea Turtles Vs Pollution. For using subheading to break up the text I got 50% good so I changed my subheading to give more information.I defined the topic with good evidence so I worked on that to try and define the topic better and in different way. Most of my information was relevant to the topic but I changed it so it was more about just Sea turtles, oil spills and pollution. I didn’t add any links about them so I made another slide just with links. I did do it all in my own words but it didn’t of seemed like it to some other people so I made it so I thought is sounded more like how I would say it. I did well in the graphics being relevant to the text but I changed some of them s it was more relevant. ½ of the people who reflected on it said that I gave evidence of my own opinion so I made sure that I wrote my opinion really strong. I’m beginning to use emotive writing but with more practice I think I’ll do better. I did great on giving suggestions on what you can do to help.

Thanks For Reading!!!

Art Gallery

Art GalleryDuring term one a group of my classmates and my teacher went on a trip to the art gallery. I saw lots of amazing and inspirational artworks but one of my favorite ones was a portrait oil painting of a Beach and it had a row of pattern along the bottom. There were about eight different ones that all were so similar but so different at the same time. Another One of my favorites was also an oil painting but it was of a cat sitting on a windowsill with the curtains swaying in the brees. My other favorite was a metal sculpture of a flying carpet with tassels on the edgers. I love art and I am looking at it in a way I've never seen it before.

This is my personal connection and my poem!

Personal Connection Clara 2019
Last year my family and I went on a trip to Samoa for two weeks. Even though we went swimming and snorkeling every day we never got bored of looking at the beautiful sea life and sea bed. I can relate to the story because Tangaroa lives in in a beautiful sea with lots of amazing sea animals and reaf. We didn’t see whales or octopus but millions of fish!

Sea Life Poem
Fish everywhere!
Slimy fish, every shape and size popping out of the reef.
Flying through a sea wonderland.
Excitement bubble in my stomach.
Legs kicking like a machine.
Water washing in my ears.
So Beautiful!
