Jellie Park!

On Friday all of the year 7 & 8 students in our class went to Jellie park. We took two buses to get there and once we arrived we all changing into togs then went swimming! It was REALLY cold at the start and I spent most of it trying to warm up in the sun but as the day went on it got warmer. Me and my friends spent a lot of time on the hydroslide or swimming in the main pool. It was really fun and I wish we could go again.

Tessellation!

Today in math we were working on tessellation, where you fit shapes into an area and there are no empty spaces. I tried four different shapes, A circle, Triangle, Rectangle and Arrows. I found that the circle and the arrows didn't tessellate but the Triangles and the rectangles did. I started by getting out a triangle and then duplicating it. I then set it out in the order I wanted then grouped it. This is a screenshot of the triangles that I did.

One Word Speech!

All of the year 8s in our class have to write a speech that is based on one main thing that has helped me being at the school. We each video ourselves saying it and then that video will be played at the leaves dinner. My word is confidence and this is my speech.

Hi My name’s Clara and my word is confidence.

Since I first started school I have never been the most confident person, hiding myself in with everybody else and not being noticed. My brother and sister have really helped me, encouraging me to try new things and appreciate the good stuff.

My confidence has grown heaps but it wasn’t until this year that I really noticed. Whether it was being made to stand up and say the Mihi Whakatau in the mornings or just putting my hand up and answer questions in front of the class.

Now I feel ready for high school and confident to try new things.

Then and Now

This week as a part of our literacy work we have done another pobble story. I did one about a time change btween two places and it was callen Then and Now. It is only the very start but I like it so far.
The heavy bustle of the airport drowns out the sounds of the passing taxis. I watch as the yellow cars navigate through the crowded parking lot, yelling and pumping fists at the nearby drivers all fighting to get a park. The hand tight ends on my wrist and tugs me forwards. We make our way through the crowded lobby, sidestepping around a group of flight attendants hurrying towards the large double doors. Raphael’s hand not holding mine pushed the doors open, revealing a huge open space. Shiny tiled floor reflected off the lights that speckled the ceiling, making the whole space glow. Large white pillars sit on either side of the ticket machines and rows of stanchions are crowded with people. He leads me towards the ticket bench where a woman with greying brown hair stands. Her tied eyes glance up at us as we approach and she closes the binder book with a significant click then turns her attention to us. “Two tickets, Los angeles” He says, pulling his card out oif the pockets of his dark wash jeans. His pale hands look shiny under the bright lights as the woman offers him the eftpos machine.

Jokes!

Every morning we start the day with handwriting that our teacher Mr Redmond puts up. We have to make sure we get the correct spelling, punctuation and linking. They are usually pretty terrible dad jokes that make everyone roll their eyes but this morning he put up one that for the first time in two years was good! This is it:

"I've decided to sell my vacuum cleaner."

"It's just  collecting dust."

End of year Speech!

As the end of the year is getting closer I have started to write a speech to say at the end of year assembly. Its not nearly done yet but I have 2 and a bit paragraphs down that still need editing but they are coming along quite well. Another bit I want to add in is a bit to the year 6s that are coming into year 7 next year and my advice. I am happy with what I have so far and I hope the rest will be easy to write.
