I'm Nobody!

This week for part of our literacy work we have read a poem and I've done a reflection of the poem beside the original poem. Enjoy!

Being famous is getting harder and harder now-days.
You get displayed all over everything and one wrong
step and you get despite. Especially now with internet
access you can get sent terrible messages without
anybody else knowing. When the poet says, ‘How
dreary to be somebody’ It shows that being a
‘somebody’ has just as many downsides as being
a nobody. You are somebody lots of people look
up to and love but sometimes even the biggest fans
forget that you have feelings inside. In earlier times
when the poem (Between 1830 - 1886) was written
everybody had a use or as they said in the poem
‘They'd banish us you know’. This suggests that
if you didn’t help people with jobs or other things
you would be punished or banished. Even though
we don’t get banished these days if we aren't as
much, we still get paid less or get disrespected.
Thanks for reading!

Story!

Throughout this lockdown I have been writing a story in my free time witch I had a lot of! I've tried to edit it well but i'm sure there's quite a bit left! It's quite long so I have only put the first chapter in. Enjoy!

Chapter 1

Bridie’s hand proved over the parchment easily, the words flowing to her as she wrote. Her twirly writing took up most to the page, leaving only the margins clear. Cramp started to prickle up Bridie’s arm as she worked, making her stop. Shaking her hand, she moves the quill into the other hand then continues writing. The parchment never stopped coming, making her unable to have a reason to stop. She couldn’t remember how she’d gotten here or when just the task she had been set to do. The room she was in was large and dark with only the dim candle light for him to see from. A bed to the right was small and old with fraying sheets and a tartened rug. Beside the table is spear ink and quills. It wasn't my plan to give him the equipment that people in the olden days used but Eric insisted. By insisted I mean threatened. Just thinking about Eric made me tense.
“What's happening?” Eric asked, wandering over to me, his headpiece settled over his dark hair.
Call of the devil much. “Nothing, she’s still writing”
Eric nodded approvingly, “Good, make sure it stays that way” He starts to leave but Nike, who guards Bridie’s box runs up to him, looking scared. SHe’s has her gun slung across her back and her fist’s are clenched.
“She’s found the box”
“What box?” Eric says half paying attention. He tries to step forward but Nike holds her ground. Bad idea. Eric puts his thick hand on her face and shoves her out of the way, making her stumble backward. Nike looks taken back by this then calls in one last hope at Eric’s descending figure, “The box that the designers left when they were building the room. The box with the instructions”.
Eric spins around and curses. I can practically see the anger flaring off of him.
“They did what?” He yells, steering wided at Nike. She has the common sense not to say anything.
“Those blithering idiots are going to mess this whole thing up. I’m going to-” He stops short.
Suddenly it's like someone switched the light inside of him. He freezes, not even blinking. He smiles, flashing his teeth at Nike. For Eric that’s even more scary. “Thank you. That is all”
She nods slightly at me then scurrys of in the direction of Bridies box.
“I'll be back” He says smiling at me then stalks forwards towards the builders department. No doubt to yell at them. He didn’t have the authority to hurt them physically.
I lean back in my chair and survey the room. It’s cleaner than yesterday when we brought Bridie in. Sitting on my desk is a computer screen, playing the video camera that's watching Bridie. Eric’s desk is next to mine, his with another computer with the programing. The room we work in is large with lots of computers. On one wall is a huge screen with lots of different camra’s for each box with a human inside. Each person is selected by an elite squad then kidnapped. From there they get put in their box with the equipment they need for them to work. For instance one woman was great with computers so she set her up with a program which she started coding. Now she was incharge of the computer department. For some reason they chose to bring in this young girl who couldn’t be older than 16 and made her write who knows what.

“I will kill them, they will die a slow painful death...” Eric walked in, steeming. His eyes are darker than usual and he glares at me. I know better then to stear back. I look back to the screen and continue watching Bridie as he works. After a few minutes of pacing Eric finally sits back down at his desk. His brow furrowed, he types hurriedly, smashing the keys.

Bridie stops writing, shaking out both hands. I realize now she’s using the box for a stand for his ink. She hasn’t looked inside it yet.
“Hey,” I say, glancing over at Eric who’s swearing at the screan again and banging the side of her computer. “She hasn't even looked inside the box yet. It’s not to late”
He stares at me for a second then clicks a button on his earpiece, moving the microphone closer to his mouth. “Nike, enter the room and take the box immediately” There's a brief pause and I see Eric jaw clench“What do you mean you can't? Nevermind, Ryan can do it”
My head snaps up at the sound of my voice. No way was I going in that room with that girl.
I shake my head at Eric but he ignores me, clicking another button to end the talk. Without looking at me he pulls open a draw and passes me a small plastic dome. An earpiece.
I hold the earpiece in my hand without putting it in.
“Well” Eric demands, “Put it in”
I should have done as he asked but instead I just blurt out the first thing I can think of. “No”
Eric turns to me, locking his brown eyes on my heterochromia ones.
“What did you just say”
“Of course I will,” I say, wanting to smack myself. Although Eric couldn’t touch the builders I had no control over him.
I stick the peace in my ear and I hear Eric mumble through it. “Rember, I can do anything I want to you”
I squirm in my seat. No-one had that effect over me. Except Eric. He stands and I follow him out of the room and into a concrete hallway. Our footsteps echo through the empty halls and our shadows dance wildly in the candlelight. We reach a door with a plate on it saying, Important-Don’t Hurt. He produces a small golden key from his pocket and shoves it in the door, twisting the lock open.
“Do exactly as I say” He growls, pulling open the door and shoving me inside. I here the door click shut beside me and Eric’s voice in my ear, “Walk over to her but don’t say anything I don’t tell you to”
I do as he says, stepping slowly towards her. She stands and turns towards me. Her raven black hair is in a wavy high ponytail and she wears a pale cropped t-shirt and black pants.
“What are you doing?” Bridie says, folding her arms and staring at me. She’s the most open out of all of the people i’ve been in a box with. Hopeful that meant she would be cooperative.
“Nothing” I say, listening for more instructions from Eric but none come.
“Get out” She demands, pointing to the door where I had came from, “Now”
I hold up my hands, “I will, I just need to get that box” I point my index finger towards the box that sits on the ground beside her writing and she glances over at it.
“And why do you need that?”
I sigh. So much for easy.
“Do it” Eric growls in my ear, “You have to do it now”
I don't want to hurt her, don’t want to hurt this innocent girl who got kidnapped but with Eric threatening in my ear and her staring at me I have no other choice.

I lunge forwards, knocking her over. Grasping her wrist I kick her behind the knees, making her fall flat on the ground. She springs upright again and pulls her fist back punching me in the jaw. I have to admit her punch is strong but I’m stronger. I take her hair in one hand and punch her as hard as I can in the stomach. She bends over gasping and I take my chance, punching her hard in the face. She falls to the floor and I stand over her, nudging her with my foot. She doesn't move.
“Good enough for you?” I say sarcastically into the microphone, walking over and picking up the box.
“Shut up. Just get out already” I do as he says, walking out of the box and letting him lock her inside again.

New word to look out for!

In literacy we are doing some spelling tasks and I have chosen to learn the word Isolate. I thought it was relevant for we are either still in or are coming out of lockdown. I have also chosen a pitcher of someone in a bubble because we are all isolating away from others to stop Covid-19. To help me remember how to spell it I have done a spelling mountain.

Ponies!

Most weekends I go to my great aunt's place to ride her ponies with my friend Olive. She has 8 shetland's called, Merlin, Blue, Merlina, Ella, Missy, Basil, Foxeuy and Morits. The first 5 all live with her but Foxey and Basil boath live somwhere elce. Moritz is a stallion so she is leasing him out to breed at another place. She also has a kimanua chestnut horse called Phenix who is quite grumpy!

Usually I ride Merlin who is super friendly and adorable! I love him so much and not being able to see him for ages is very hard. When Olive come's she rides Blue who is also very cute!

Each year at the Christchurch A&P show they all do the Shetland Steeplechase around the showjumping arena. Because Merlin is the sort of middle-man his rider has a go-pro on their helmet and the video gets posted on Facebook afterwards. I love watching the video and seeing his little head as he gallops.  If you want to see the last few years videos most of them are on you-tube under, 'Shetland steeplechase Christchurch A&P show'.

Should kids be on instagram, tic tok and snapchat before they are 13?

Kids all over the world are having more and more access to devices at a younger age. This means that they are more likely to install social media apps such as instagram or snapchat. These are all the reasons why I don’t think they should be on these apps before they are 13. Do you agree?

Instagram is a great way to message friends, share photos of yourself and browse through others' photos. But is that all that the kids see? Most users just post nice photos of themselves, friends and family. But not all users do that. Some of the things that are posted are inappropriate or pointedly rude. Especially now that Tik tok is becoming more and more popular some of the dance’s are very inappropriate, when people post their dances on instagram loads of people see them. In fact more than 5 million people use instagram and 8.95 million photos and videos get posted on instagram each day. If you are not 13 or older do not use instagram, snapchat or Tik tok and then when you are, talk about it with your parents first.

As I said before, lots of users are perfectly fine but some you need to be more careful around. Some people might take special interest in you and what you post. They might like everything on your page, watch your live videos and text you questions about yourself. If there is someone that's doing this to you, you need to take action. First of all make sure your account is private. This ensures that they can't access you or your posts. Try not to share personal information. Then you can go through your followers and if they are in that list you can remove them. Now they can’t see your posts at all. If they do keep trying to follow you, you can block them so there is absolutely now way they can see you. Remember to talk with your parents about the stalker though so they know what's going on.

One of the other things that can be bad on any social media advice is cyberbullying. Someone can text or email you mean and offensive stuff that makes you sink inside. They could talk about you, your actions, body, looks or really anything. The first thing you do if you talk to someone about what's going on. Sometimes it might be hard but it will take the pressure of you if you have someone to confide in. Together you can decide what to do, whether to block the person, report them or repel.

This is another reason that you should be 13 to have these apps. Younger people might deal with these things in a different way and take it more peronaly.

I hope you realize that the internet is a dangerous place for kids. Make sure they know how to deal with inappropriate stuff, cyberbullying and stalkers before they get the app. Rember, always talk to your parents or caregivers about anything, it's better to get through these kinds of things together. You want your kids to be safe online right?

My Crazy Cat!

Throughout this lockdown my very crazy cat has been doing lots of funny stuff. We wake up to him bouncing around the house playing with some wool or a hair tie. We took the wool or hair tie away and an hour later he started playing again with another one!

His name is Frankleigh and he is 15 years old. He's quite feisty and bites a lot but we love him loads!

Keep safe everyone!
